When work took Dad away from home, he returned with a plush animal from his travels. Each one arrived with a story waiting to be imagined.
Then, on a family trip to a zoo in Utah, one particular giraffe caught their eye—and became impossible to forget.
The unforgettable day
A spark, a dash, and one special giraffe.
While the giraffe was being purchased, a ceiling fan in the gift shop caught fire. Everyone hurried outside—but Dad still made sure to pay on the way out.
That giraffe came home with the family. His name was Shorty.
From bedtime to bookshelves
Stories that kept growing.
At bedtime, Shorty began meeting his daughter’s other plush animals. Their adventures grew night after night—full of friendship, travel, animals, and discovery.
Those family stories became the Shorty the Giraffe book series by Canadian author C.C. Veniott.
